The owner of a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee called the Gallup Police Department to report the vehicle was stolen. The owner advised the Jeep was stolen from the area of I-40 and US Highway 491. The Gallup PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Shortly after the activation, and nearly 140 miles away, the Albuquerque Police Department Auto Theft Unit picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Jeep with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in their patrol and unmarked vehicles. They tracked the Jeep to an apartment complex in the area of Eastern and Alvarado. The Jeep was observed to be parked in a covered space behind a security gate.

Officers with the Albuquerque PD in marked units arrived into the area to assist in the recovery. The Jeep was found to be locked and unoccupied in the parking space. The Jeep was processed for evidence and the owner was notified of the recovery.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Jeep Grand Cherokee in August 2004 at AutoNation North Phoenix in Arizona.
