The owner of a 2017 Chevrolet Sonic called the Albuquerque Police Department to report the vehicle was stolen. The owner advised the Chevrolet was stolen by a known offender and the vehicle has not been returned. The Albuquerque PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Chevrolet Sonic.

Within a quick time after the activation, the Albuquerque Police Department Air-1 picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Chevrolet with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in their patrol vehicles and aircraft. The flight crew began tracking the stolen Chevrolet and directed ground units, also equipped with PTC’s, into the area. Officers located the Chevrolet parked in an alley behind a residence.

The stolen Chevrolet was recovered at the scene and the owner was notified of the recovery. The Chevrolet did not have any obvious signs of damage but was missing its state issued license plate. Offenders often times remove the issued license plates to avoid detection by law enforcement, especially license plate readers that search for stolen vehicles.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Chevrolet Sonic in March 2017 at Galles Chevrolet in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
