The owner of a 2008 Honda Accord loaned their car to a friend. When the friend failed to return the Honda after several hours and numerous unanswered phone calls, the owner contacted the Lauderhill Police Department to report their vehicle stolen. The responding officer prepared a stolen vehicle report, theft affidavit and had the vehicle’s information entered into the state and federal crime information computers, which automatically activates the LoJack® System concealed in the Honda.

Later that morning, while in route to their district, a Broward County Sheriff’s Office deputy picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Accord on their on-board LoJack Police Tracking Computer (PTC), that are installed in law enforcement patrol vehicles and aircraft. The deputy began tracking the stolen Honda by following the directional and audible cues on their PTC’s screen. The deputy, along with their backup, located the 4-door sedan parked abandoned in a parking space in an apartment complex parking lot near NW 42nd Avenue and NW 21st Street. The Lauderhill PD responded to handle the case since it was stolen and recovered in their jurisdiction. The Honda was recovered, removed from state and federal crime information computer systems by the entering agency and released to the owner, who responded to the scene.

The LoJack® System was installed in the 2008 Honda Accord in September 2008 at Holman Honda in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
