The owners of a Dodge Ram 2500 contacted the Tucson Police Department to report that their vehicle had been stolen without the keys from the parking lot of an office complex.

The Tucson PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Dodge.

A short while later, deputies from the Pima County Sheriff’s Department picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Dodge with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the deputies tracked the Dodge to Interstate 19 south of Tucson.

The deputies located the stolen Dodge pickup travelling south bound on Interstate 19 near Pima Mine Road. The deputies followed the stolen Dodge until the air unit and additional deputies arrived to assist. A high risk felony stop was conducted. The driver complied and was taken into custody without incident. The driver was arrested and booked for vehicle theft. The Dodge was being driven to Mexico. The Dodge was recovered in good condition with minor damage to the ignition. The Dodge was processed for evidence and later released to the owners.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Dodge Ram in September 1999 at Breck Dodge Inc. in Tucson, Arizona.
