The owner of a 2015 Volkswagen Tiguan contacted the Newport Beach Police Department to report her vehicle was stolen.  The victim was at a public library when she discovered her backpack, which contained her car keys, was taken.  The victim went to her Volkswagen, which was parked in the library parking lot, and discovered it was also missing.

The Newport Beach PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Volkswagen.

Only 12 minutes later officers from the Long Beach Police Department picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Volkswagen with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officers tracked the Volkswagen as it was traveling on Pacific Coast Highway in the city of Long Beach.  The Volkswagen was occupied by a lone female.  Officers conducted a felony stop and detained the female.  The officers found the female driver was possibly under the influence or had other issues to make her semi-functional.  Inside the Volkswagen the officers located the victim’s backpack along with other personal items belonging to the victim.  The Volkswagen was recovered along with the personal items belonging to the victim.  Detectives later tried to interview the suspect but she did not respond to their questioning.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Volkswagen Tiguan in November 2014 at Commonwealth Volkswagen in Santa Ana, California.
