The owner of a 2006 Nissan Maxima parked their car in front of their home. They invited some “friends” into their home to help them move some items the next morning. After some entertainment, they all went to sleep. The next morning the owner’s “friends,” the only car key and the Nissan were all missing. The owner spent several hours searching for the Nissan. After not being able to locate the Nissan, the owner contacted the Daytona Beach Police Department to report it stolen. The responding officer prepared a stolen vehicle report, theft affidavit and had the vehicle’s information entered into the state and federal crime information computers, which automatically activates the LoJack® System concealed in the Nissan.

The next afternoon  while on routine patrol, a Volusia County Sheriff’s Office deputy picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Maxima’s transponder on their on-board LoJack Police Tracking Computer (PTC), that are installed in law enforcement patrol vehicles, helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft. The deputy began tracking the stolen Nissan by following the directional and audible cues on their PTC’s screen. The deputy, along with their backup, located the 4-door sedan abandoned and unlocked in the parking lot of an outlet mall just south of LPGA Boulevard and Cornerstone Boulevard. The Nissan was recovered, removed from state and federal crime information computer systems by the entering agency and towed to the police impound yard for safekeeping.
