The owner of a Toyota Camry recently discovered that the vehicle had had been stolen from the parking spot in front of his residence located in the northeast section of Philadelphia. The Toyota owner called 911 and the Philadelphia Police Department Radio dispatched a uniformed officer to investigate the incident. The officer quickly arrived on location, interviewed the complainant and then surveyed the area for the Toyota. When the officer was unable to locate the Toyota a stolen vehicle report was prepared and taken to the Philadelphia PD 2nd District HQ. The stolen vehicle information was then entered into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Toyota.

A short while later a member of the Philadelphia PD Major Crimes Auto Squad was conducting an unrelated investigation and reported that he had picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Toyota with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the auto theft investigator tracked the signal to the area of Oakmont Street. The investigator observed the parked Toyota and cautiously approached same to discover that the vehicle was unoccupied. The highly trained auto theft investigator arranged for the Toyota to be confiscated and processed for physical evidence.

This incident remains under investigation by the Philadelphia PD Major Crimes Auto Squad.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Toyota Camry in March 2002 at Toyota of Hackensack in New Jersey.
