The owner of a 2014 Honda Civic contacted the Chicago Park Police Department to report that after he had parked and locked his car on the 3900 block of West Cortland Street in Chicago’s Logan Square neighborhood, four men exited a black Chevrolet Impala displaying handguns and robbed him of his cash, wallet, car keys and phone. Two men then re-entered the Impala while the other two entered the victim’s Honda and drove away. The Chicago PD responding to a nearby in progress robbery call where a black Chevrolet Impala had been used re-routed to the carjacking.  The Chicago PD officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Honda Civic.

Shortly after the Honda was activated, the Chicago PD units equipped with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers from the Austin District picked up the silent and directional signal being broadcast from the carjacked Honda Civic.  The Chicago PD following the signal from the stolen Honda tracked the vehicle to the 5400 block of West Madison Street in Chicago’s Austin neighborhood.  The Honda Civic was recovered parked and unoccupied and towed for processing by the Chicago PD. Police investigation into this carjacking continues.

Due to LoJack the owner of this 2014 Honda Civic had his vehicle recovered two hours after it was entered as stolen. The Honda was recovered before it could be damaged, stripped, cloned, re-tagged or used in a crime.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Honda Civic in September 2014 at VIP Honda in New Jersey.
