The owners of a 2016 Chrysler 200 contacted the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department to report that their vehicle and keys were stolen from their residence in Bristol. The victim had recently moved from Georgia to Indiana and had some friends over for a gathering. The following morning they discovered both the Chrysler and keys were missing.
The Elkhart County SD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Chrysler.
A short while later a vehicle equipped with a LoJack Police Tracking Computer (PTC) traveling along Interstate 80 near South Bend picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Chrysler. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the Chrysler was tracked to the rear of a residence in South Bend.
Officers from the South Bend Police Department responded and talked to the owner of the residence who provided information on the persons that parked the Chrysler on the property. The stolen Chrysler had no damage and was impounded. Because of the quick recovery the suspects did not have enough time to strip the Chrysler or use it to commit additional crimes. This matter is to be further investigated by the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department.
The LoJack® System was pre-installed in the Chrysler 200 in May 2016 at Thornton Road Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram in Lithia Springs, Georgia.
