The owners of a 2016 Yanmar Mini Excavator contacted the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department to report that their machine was stolen from their construction site in Montgomery County during the overnight period. The Montgomery County SD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Yanmar Excavator.

Later officers from the Galveston County Auto Crimes task force along with Santa Fe Police Department picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Yanmar Excavator with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officers tracked the signal to a residential area that is five acre “ranchettes” where the residence keeps horses. The excavator was located in a barn on the property. The owner claimed he had purchased the excavator and produced a bill of sale. Officers seized the excavator and returned it to the owner. This is an ongoing investigation.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Yanmar Mini Excavator in March 2015 via Commercial Customer.
