The owner of a 2007 Dodge Caliber called the Los Lunas Police Department to report their vehicle was stolen. The Los Lunas PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Dodge Caliber.

Within under an hour after the activation, a deputy with the Valencia County Sheriff’s Department picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Dodge with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in their patrol vehicles. The deputy tracked the Dodge into Meadow Lake and attempted to make contact with the driver. The driver took off in the Dodge and attempted to elude the deputy by driving down dirt roads. Rather than engaging in a risky pursuit through a residential area the deputy utilized his LoJack PTC to continue tracking the Dodge.

The deputy located the Dodge on a dirt bank on side of the road. Apparently the driver attempted to go around a barrier blocking the road but instead got stuck. The driver exited the Dodge and took off on foot. The deputy utilized his knowledge of the area, tracked down the driver and took him into custody. The deputy advised this driver is a known auto theft offender.

The Dodge was processed for evidence and towed from the scene for safekeeping. The Dodge will be released back to the owner at a later date. The offender was charged for receiving and transferring a stolen vehicle along with additional charges.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Dodge Caliber in October 2009 at Spradley Chevrolet in Pueblo, Colorado.
