The owner of a 2001 BMW 320i contacted the Richmond City Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen from the area of 3100 Ellwood Avenue in Richmond City. The Richmond City PD Radio dispatched an officer to investigate the incident. The officer quickly arrived on location, interviewed the complainant and surveyed the area for the BMW. When the officer was unable to locate the BMW a stolen vehicle report was prepared. The officer then arranged for the stolen vehicle information to be entered into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the BMW 320i.

A short while later, officers from the Henrico County Sheriff’s Department picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen BMW with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in their patrol vehicles. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officers tracked the BMW to the area of 3000 Cary Street in Richmond City. At this location officers located the BMW parked and unoccupied. The undamaged BMW was then recovered by police and the owner notified.

The LoJack® System was installed in the 2001 BMW 320i in November 2001 at Tischer Auto Park in Silver Spring, Maryland.
