The owners of a 2001 Toyota Tacoma contacted the Bryan Police Department to report that their pickup was stolen from their apartment parking lot complex. The owner lives in an out of coverage area one hundred miles northwest of Houston and was not aware the original owner had purchased the LoJack stolen vehicle system for the used vehicle they purchased. The Bryan PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Toyota.

A short while later officers from the Houston Police Department picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Toyota with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officers tracked the Toyota to the 6600 block of Avenue A where the pickup was parked in a large apartment parking lot. Officers observed the Toyota’s engine was still hot and decided to set up surveillance. Only a short time later they observed one male suspect enter the Toyota and attempted to drive out of the complex. Officers blocked the Toyota in and arrested the suspect without incident. The driver was charged with Felony Theft and the Toyota stored pending owner notification.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Toyota Tacoma in November 2001 at Mike Calvert Toyota in Houston, Texas.
