The owner of a 2008 Scion contacted the Chicago Park Police Department to report that someone had stolen his vehicle from the 900 block of West Huron Ave in Chicago’s West River neighborhood on Chicago’s north side. The victim explained he was unpacking groceries when he had left his Scion running in the street. The Chicago PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Scion.

Shortly after the Scion was activated, the Chicago PD units equipped with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) from the Grand Crossing District picked up the silent and directional signal being broadcast from the stolen Scion.  The Chicago PD following the signal from the stolen Scion located the vehicle on the 6000 block of S Martin Luther King Junior Drive in Chicago’s Washington Park neighborhood on Chicago’s south side parked and unoccupied, unfortunately the groceries were missing. The Scion was recovered by the Chicago PD and towed for processing.  Police investigation into this auto theft continues.

Due to LoJack the owner of this Scion had his vehicle recovered shortly after it was entered as stolen. The Scion was recovered undamaged, before it could be stripped, cloned, re-tagged or used in a crime.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Scion in September 2011 at Schaumberg Toyota in Illinois.
