The owners of a 2009 Chevrolet Silverado contacted the Tucson Police Department to report that their vehicle had been stolen by a known acquaintance.

The Tucson PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Chevrolet.

Forty-five minutes later, officers from the Tucson PD picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Chevrolet with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC the officers tracked the Chevrolet to a mobile home trailer park in southwest Tucson.

The stolen Chevy pickup was occupied and fled from the marked police cars.  The Tucson PD did not pursue the Chevy and notified other agencies.  A short time later, deputies with the Pima County Sheriff’s Department picked up the Lojack signal in the area of 22nd Avenue and Interstate 10.  The deputies located the stolen Chevy still occupied.  The suspect in the stolen Chevy rammed the marked Pima County SD vehicles and eluded capture.  The Chevy pickup was later found unoccupied.  The suspect had fled on foot and was not located in the area.  The stolen Chevy pickup was recovered with minor damage.  The Chevy was processed for evidence and impounded for safekeeping.  The suspect was identified and felony warrants were issued for his arrest.

This was the second time this Chevrolet Silverado was stolen, tracked and recovered by the use of the LoJack® System.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Chevrolet Silverado in March 2011 at Enterprise in Tucson, Arizona.
