The owners of a 2003 BMW 330i contacted the Phoenix Police Department to report that their vehicle had been stolen from an automotive repair shop.  It was determined that the BMW was one of five vehicles that were stolen from the repair shop sometime during the past two days.

The Phoenix PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the BMW.

Thirty-five minutes later the helicopter crew from the Phoenix PD picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen BMW with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC the police helicopter tracked the BMW to the area of 35th Avenue and Broadway Road, approximately forty miles from where it was reported stolen from.

The BMW was mobile and traveled approximately fifteen miles to a neighborhood where the suspect parked the car at a residence near 21st Street and Weldon Avenue.  A Phoenix PD officer in a marked patrol car with a PTC tracked the vehicle and observed the suspect getting out of the stolen BMW.  The suspect was arrested without incident.  The stolen BMW was recovered in good condition and impounded for safekeeping.

The suspect was in possession of a set of Nissan keys and during the interview he did provide information that led to the recovery of a stolen 2003 Nissan 350Z that was also taken from the repair shop.  Personal property and court paperwork belonging to the suspect was found in the stolen Nissan.  The suspect was booked for the theft of both vehicles.  The Phoenix PD auto theft detectives are following up and additional charges may be pending with the recovery of the other three stolen vehicles.

The LoJack® System was installed in the BMW 330i in July 2003 at BMW of North Scottsdale in Phoenix, Arizona.
