LoJack® System Helps Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department Recover Stolen Honda Accord

The owners of a 2009 Honda Accord contacted the Los Angeles Police Department Hollenbeck Division to report that their vehicle was stolen, possibly by a juvenile run away. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Honda Accord.
A short while later the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department Air-8 flight deputies picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Honda with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, Air-8 tracked the Honda to Evanwood Avenue and Homeward St, City of Industry, and located the vehicle. They observed a male suspect exit the Honda and enter a garage of a residence in the 14700 block of Homeward St. Responding Industry units observed a male subject matching the description standing inside the garage with two other male subjects. All three were detained and while taking the driver into custody, the observer made a positive identification. The driver admitted to the deputies that he had taken the Honda without permission and knew he was in trouble when he saw the helicopter circling overhead. He was taken into custody and later processed for the theft as well as an outstanding no bail warrant. The other two individuals were released. The undamaged Honda was stored at a local tow company and later released to the owners.
The LoJack® System was installed in the Honda Accord in October 2009 at Planet Honda in Union City, New Jersey.
