The operator of a 2011 Doosan 185 air compressor arrived at their construction site and discovered their piece of construction equipment missing. They contacted the Broward County Sheriff’s Office to report their machine stolen. The responding deputy prepared a stolen vehicle report, theft affidavit and had the machine’s information entered into the state and federal crime information computers.

Immediately upon activation, while on routine patrol, a Broward County Sheriff’s Office deputy picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen 185 air compressor on their on-board LoJack Police Tracking Computer (PTC). The deputy began tracking the stolen machine by following the directional and audible cues on their PTC’s screen. The deputy, along with their backup, located the air compressor LoJack signal emanating from a warehouse area near NE 1st Avenue and NE 8th Street. As the deputies could not pinpoint the equipment’s location, they contacted an Auto Theft Task Force investigator to assist them. Upon arrival of the investigator it was determined that the strongest signal was emanating from an area of storage bays behind the group that they were checking. After further examination of the area it was determined that the signal was broadcasting from one particular storage bay. The decision to set up surveillance was make and everyone except for the surveillance officer left the scene. The next morning while a detective was preparing a search warrant for the storage bay where they believed the stolen equipment was located, the detective made contact with the renter of the storage bay. They admitted to the detective that they had purchased an air compressor and that it was indeed stored in their storage bay. The renter responded to the storage bay, opened it, and allowed the deputies to take possession of the air compressor. The construction equipment was recovered, released to the owner, who responded to the scene, and removed from state and federal crime information computer systems.

The LoJack® System was installed in the 2011 Doosan 185 air compressor in May 2011 in Florida.
