The owner of a Chevrolet Silverado called the University of New Mexico Police Department to report their vehicle was stolen from a hospital parking lot.  The UNM PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Chevrolet.

Within an hour after the activation, officers with the Albuquerque PD and New Mexico State Police picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Chevrolet with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in their patrol vehicles.  Following the audible and directional cues from the PTC, the Chevrolet was tracked to a residential area on the Westside of Albuquerque.  The Chevrolet remained mobile driving through multiple area commands and jurisdictions attempting to elude capture.

The Chevrolet stopped at a hotel in the area of Gibson and University where the occupants went inside.  Officers located the Chevrolet in the parking lot and then made contact with hotel personnel.  Through video surveillance officers were able to locate the offenders to a room and were subsequently taken into custody.  Auto Theft Detectives arrived on scene and took over the investigation.  The Chevrolet was processed for evidence and observed to have a damaged door lock and ignition.  The Chevrolet was recovered and will be released to the owner.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Chevrolet Silverado in December 2004 at Fairway Chevrolet in Las Vegas, Nevada.
