The owner of a 2008 Kawasaki ZX-1000 Ninja motorcycle contacted the Margate Police Department to report that their motorcycle was stolen sometime during the night. The responding officer prepared a stolen vehicle report, theft affidavit and had the motorcycle’s information entered into the state and federal crime information computers. This routine police procedure automatically transmits an activation command to the LoJack Stolen Vehicle Recovery transponder concealed in the motorcycle to begin broadcasting its signal. During their interview with the owner, the officer asked the owner whether he had a LoJack® System installed on their motorcycle. The owner advised that he did not.

Immediately upon activation, a Broward County Sheriff’s Office deputy picked up the silent LoJack signal emanating from the stolen Ninja motorcycle on their on-board LoJack Police Tracking Computer (PTC). The deputy began tracking the stolen motorcycle by following the directional and audible cues on the PTC screen. The deputy, along with their backup, located the motorcycle in an apartment complex parking lot near N.W. 78th Street and University Drive. The deputies contacted their detectives who set up surveillance on the motorcycle. After a while the detectives were relieved by a covert unit from Margate PD. After several hours the surveillance was terminated with negative results. The motorcycle was recovered, released to the owner and removed from state and federal crime information computer systems.

The LoJack® System was installed in the 2008 Kawasaki ZX-1000 Ninja motorcycle in May 2009 at Broward Motorsports Palm Beach in West Palm Beach, Florida.
