The owner of a 2006 Ford F-250 pickup truck contacted the Miramar Police Department to report their vehicle stolen from their home. The responding officer prepared a stolen vehicle report, theft affidavit and had the vehicle’s information entered into the state and federal crime computers. This routine police procedure automatically transmits an activation command to the LoJack® System concealed in the Ford to begin broadcasting its signal.

Later in the morning, a Miami-Dade Police Department auto theft detective picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen F-250 on their on-board LoJack Police Tracking Computer (PTC). The PTC enables law enforcement officers to track, locate and recover stolen vehicles quickly and safely. The auto theft detective began tracking the stolen Ford by following the directional and audible cues on their PTC screen. The auto theft detective, along with their backup, located the Ford abandoned in the parking lot of an apartment complex near N.W. 119th Street and N.W. 27th Avenue. This parking lot is a known drop off point for thieves to “cool off” stolen vehicles. The Ford was recovered, released to the owner, who responded to the scene, and removed from federal and state crime computer systems.

The LoJack® System was installed in the 2006 Ford F-250 pickup truck in July 2005 at Auto Nation Ford in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
