The Staten Island, NY resident in this case had either dropped the keys to his 2009 Toyota Corolla, or left them in the ignition. Whatever occurred, it didn’t take long for a thief to spot the keys and take off in the car. With help from the LoJack® system that was installed when the vehicle was purchased, local law enforcement captured the crook and recovered the Corolla in excellent condition.

On May 19th, 2014, the Toyota’s owner contacted the NYPD 123rd Precinct to report that his vehicle was stolen. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. This action automatically activated the LoJack unit concealed in the Corolla, which was installed at Crystal Motors in Greenbrook, NJ.

A while later, officers from the NYPD Staten Island Auto Larceny Unit picked up the silent homing signal from the stolen car on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles. The Toyota was found in the parking lot of an office building in South Beach. After a brief surveillance, a man attempted to enter the car and was quickly taken into custody. The Corolla, in excellent condition, was retrieved and soon returned to its elated owner.
