In this case, a 2011 Dodge Ram pickup that was rented by the New York City Department of Transportation was stolen from a construction site when an employee left the vehicle unattended with the keys in the ignition. It’s a good thing that the rental company chose to protect its asset with the LoJack® system. Local law enforcement, assisted by LoJack, recovered the truck quickly and without any damage.

On May 19th, 2014, NYC DOT contacted the NYPD 103rd Precinct to report the crime. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. This procedure automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Ram, which was installed at a large national rental company.

A short while later, officers from the NYPD 100th Precinct picked up the silent homing signals from the stolen truck on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles. The Dodge was located in the Rockaway section of Queens, parked at a home that was being repaired due to damage from Hurricane Sandy. A man at the location was placed under arrest. The undamaged Ram was retrieved and soon returned to the construction site.
