The Toyota RAV4 in this case was stolen while parked on the street in the South Bronx, NY, late on a recent Sunday afternoon. The victim was really glad she had the LoJack® system installed when she purchased her SUV. With LoJack’s help, local police were able to recover her vehicle quickly, safely and without damage.

On March 15th, 2014, the Toyota’s owner contacted the NYPD 40th Precinct to report her vehicle was stolen. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the NYSPIN and NCIC state and federal crime computers. This procedure automatically activated the LoJack device concealed in the RAV4, which was installed at Hudson Toyota in Jersey City, NJ.

A short time later, officers assigned to NYPD’s Bronx Auto Larceny Unit picked up the homing signals from the stolen SUV on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their unmarked vehicles. The officers located the Toyota, parked and unoccupied in an industrial complex. After a brief surveillance, a male attempted to enter the vehicle and was arrested. The undamaged RAV4 was retrieved and soon returned to its thankful owner.
