The owner of a Ford Escape in Atlanta, GA made the mistake of leaving a spare set of keys inside the car. When a thief broke into the vehicle looking to steal its contents, he or she found those keys and took the Escape instead. What this crook didn’t know is that this vehicle was protected by the LoJack® system. Local police, assisted by LoJack, were able to recover the Ford later that same morning.

The crime was reported to the Atlanta Police Dept. on February 10th, 2014. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. The LoJack device concealed in the Escape, which was installed at Team Ford in Alpharetta, GA, was then automatically activated.

Later that morning, Georgia State Patrol officers began receiving a homing signal coming from the stolen car on the LoJack tracking computer installed in their patrol vehicles. An Atlanta Police Helicopter also received the signal and directed ground crews to a shopping area where the Ford was parked and abandoned in its lot. The Escape was in good condition and still had the keys in it. It was soon returned to its relieved owner.
