The owner of the 2010 Audi A5 in this case had his Redmond, WA home up for sale, and left his car in the garage while he was traveling. Sometime during a three day period, the house was burglarized, and the thieves found keys to the A5 and drove away.  This victim was smart enough to have protected his vehicle with the LoJack® system when he purchased it, so local law enforcement recovered it in less than three hours after activation.

The Audi’s owner discovered the burglary and auto theft on February 21st, 2014, and immediately contacted the King County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies verified the incident and entered the vehicle identification number into the state and federal crime computers. The LoJack device concealed in the A5, which was installed at HBL Mercedes Benz in Vienna, VA, was then automatically activated.

Approximately two hours later, a Washington State Patrol Cessna flying over King County received the homing signal transmitting from the stolen car on the LoJack tracking computer installed in the aircraft.  The pilot requested ground assistance, and the Audi was located on NE Woodinville-Duvall Place, where it was found parked and abandoned. The WSP ground officers retrieved the undamaged A5 and soon returned it to its grateful owner.
