While the Bellevue, WA resident in this case was sleeping a little later on a recent Saturday, his Jeep Cherokee was being stolen out of his driveway. The LoJack® system that was installed when the SUV was purchased proved its value by helping local law enforcement locate it in less than three hours after activation.
On December 14th, 2013, the Jeep’s owner reported the theft to the Bellevue Police Department. Officers entered the vehicle identification number into the state and federal crime computers. That process automatically activated the LoJack device concealed in the Cherokee, which was installed at Center Chrysler-Jeep in Van Nuys, CA.
Less than two hours later, a Renton Police officer and a King County Sheriff sergeant received homing signals transmitting from the stolen SUV on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol cars. They located the Jeep to Union Avenue NE in Renton, where it was found parked and abandoned. The undamaged Cherokee was retrieved and soon returned to its relieved owner.
