Finding your vehicle missing from a restaurant parking lot is just about the worst way to end a fun night out. The Florida residents whose 2010 Honda Accord was stolen in this case had a little bit of an advantage over the thief- they had the LoJack® system installed when they purchased their car. Though the crook could not see or hear LoJack working, it still helped local police recover the car in less than three hours after activation.
On November 21st, 2013, the Honda’s owners contacted the St. Petersburg Police to report that their vehicle was stolen. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. This procedure which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Honda, which was installed at Honda of Wesley Chapel, FL.
A short while later, officers from St Petersburg PD picked up the homing signals from the stolen car on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles. The Honda was located being driven in the city. A traffic stop was performed and the driver was taken into custody following a brief foot pursuit. Officers retrieved the Accord and soon returned it to its relieved owners.
