Construction equipment is very popular among thieves, because it’s very valuable and a lot of businesses have a need for it. The Louisiana based company who was the victim in this case was smart enough to protect its machines with the LoJack® system, so, when someone stole their Caterpillar 236B skid steer loader, the local police, assisted by LoJack, were able to get it back the same day.

On October 16th, 2013, the company’s owner contacted the Slidell Police Department to report the crime. Officers verified the theft and entered the equipment information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the skid steer.

A short while later, officers from the Slidell PD picked up the homing signals from the stolen Caterpillar on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles. The officers discovered the skid steer just a few hundred yards over the Mississippi state line in a vacant lot near a gas station. The machine was undamaged and soon returned to the job site.
