At first glance, a parking lot seems like a safe place to leave your vehicle. There are people coming in and out, and the lot is usually open and quite visible. Unfortunately, this is not always the case, as this Las Vegas, NV resident found out when their Jeep Grand Cherokee was stolen on a Wednesday afternoon. The LoJack® system installed in the SUV came to the rescue, helping local police safely recover the vehicle in less than 90 minutes after activation.

On October 2nd, 2013, the Jeep’s owner immediately contacted the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.   After verifying the theft, officers entered the stolen vehicle information into the NCIC Stolen Vehicle System. The LoJack unit concealed in the Grand Cherokee, which was installed at Honda World in Downey, CA, was then automatically activated.

A short while later, officers with the LVMP Bolden Area Command began picking up the homing signal from the stolen SUV with the LoJack tracking computer installed in their patrol vehicles. The officers quickly tracked the Jeep to the area near Fern Drive and Mark Avenue where they found it parked and abandoned. The undamaged Cherokee was soon returned to its thankful owner.
