The owner of a Suzuki R1000 motorcycle in Philadelphia, PA, was awakened early one Wednesday morning by some noisy thieves helping themselves to his bike.  The LoJack® system he had installed when buying his vehicle did its job and then some- it not only assisted police in recovering the R1000, but helped them recover four other stolen bikes and break up a motorcycle ‘chop shop’ operation.

On October 30th, 2013, the Suzuki’s owner called Philadelphia Police to report the crime. The officer arrived on location, interviewed the complainant and surveyed the area for the subject vehicle. When the bike could not be located, the officer prepared a stolen vehicle report and arranged to have it entered into the Philadelphia Police Computer System, the Philadelphia Crime Information center and the Pennsylvania State Police Computer. This procedure automatically activated the LoJack unit concealed in the R1000, which was installed at the Philadelphia Cycle Center in Philadelphia, PA.

A short while later, an officer from the Philadelphia Police Truck Enforcement Unit picked up the homing signals from the stolen motorcycle on the LoJack tracking computer installed in his patrol vehicle. The officer tracked the signal to a garage in an alley behind some townhomes on Farnsworth Street. The Truck Enforcement officer requested backup from the Philadelphia Police Major Crimes Auto Squad. Upon entering the garage, the squad detective saw the Suzuki and three other complete stolen motorcycles, as well as a shipping crate containing a dismantled fifth stolen bike. The R1000 was soon returned to its relieved owner. The case remains under investigation.
