When thieves stole a Kawasaki ZX600 motorcycle in Laurel, MD recently, they thought they were being clever by taking it out of state and hiding it inside another vehicle. Although these efforts might hamper a visual search, they didn’t stop the LoJack® system from sending a signal to local law enforcement, enabling them to locate the bike the same day it was taken.

On October 12th, 2013, the Kawasaki’s owner contacted the Prince George’s County Police to report that their motorcycle was stolen. Officers verified the theft and entered the motorcycle information into the state and federal crime computers. This procedure automatically activated the LoJack device concealed in the ZX600, which was installed at Heyser Cycle in Laurel, MD.

A short time later,  Prince George’s County PD WAVE (Washington Area Vehicle EnforcementUnit detectives picked up the homing signals from the stolen bike on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles. The detectives tracked the vehicle to 59th Street in Washington, DC. The Kawasaki was hidden inside of a box truck parked on the street. Detectives recovered the motorcycle and soon returned the ZX600 to its relieved owner.
