The Chicago, IL resident in this case noticed his Honda CBR1000 motorcycle missing from his residence one Monday evening. The LoJack® system he had installed when he purchased his bike helped police locate his bike even though the thieves hid it from view.

On September 23rd, 2013, the Honda’s contacted the Chicago Police to report his motorcycle was stolen. Officers verified the theft and entered the bike’s information into LEADS/NCIC, the state and federal crime computers. This procedure automatically activated the LoJack unit concealed on the CBR1000, which was installed at FNR Power Sports in North Miami Beach, FL.

A short while later, officers from Chicago’s 11th District and the Major Auto Theft Investigation Unit (CMATI) began picking up the homing signals from the stolen Honda on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles. The bike was located in a private backyard on Chicago’s west side, and was covered with a tarp. The Honda’s ignition switch had been tampered with but the bike was in otherwise find condition and the police soon returned it to its relieved owner.
