The purpose of the LoJack® system is to assist police in retrieving stolen cars, trucks, vans and motorcycles. Sometimes, the police end up retrieving other things as well, as in this case, where a stolen Honda CBR1000 motorcycle leads to an arrest and the discovery of a motorcycle ‘chop shop’.

On September 9th, 2013, the Honda’s owner contacted the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office to report the crime. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack unit concealed in the CBR1000, which was installed at Honda of Jacksonville, FL.

A short while later, a deputy from the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office picked up the homing signals from the stolen bike on the LoJack tracking computer installed in his patrol vehicle. The Deputy tracked the Honda to a motorcycle repair shop in Bunnell. The shop’s owner was arrested at that time. Three days later, members of the Jacksonville SO Auto Theft Unit along with members of the Flagler County SO and the Bunnell PD executed a search warrant at the location and recovered five other stolen motorcycles, two stolen motorcycle frames, and five engines from stolen motorcycles. The CBR1000 was soon returned to its grateful owner, who told police that this was the second occasion that his bike had been stolen and recovered by police and the LoJack system.
