The crew at a construction site in Houston, TX, came to work one Wednesday morning and noticed a Case 580N backhoe was missing from where it had been parked at the end of the previous workday. It’s a good thing the owner of the backhoe chose to protect it with the LoJack® system, which helped local law enforcement track and recover it the same day.

On September 11th, 2013, the owner of the backhoe contacted Houston Police and reported the crime. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Case.

A short while later, a deputy from the Harris County Sheriff’s Department picked up the homing signals from the stolen backhoe on the LoJack tracking computer installed in his patrol vehicle. An officer from Houston PD also began to track the Case. Both located the machine on a large lot on Wallisville Road in East Harris County. The backhoe was found hidden in a grove of trees. The Case 580N, valued at $55,000, was soon returned to its very grateful owner.
