What’s more frightening than the latest horror movie? How about exiting the theater and finding your vehicle missing from the parking lot? This happened recently in Yonkers, NY, when a filmgoer found her 2011 Land Rover Range Rover gone. It’s a good thing she had a LoJack® system installed when she bought her SUV, so local police were able to track it down quickly and give this scary scenario a happy ending.

On September 9th, 2013, the Range Rover’s owner contacted Yonkers Police to report the crime. Officers verified the theft and entered the SUV’s information into the Yonkers stolen vehicle computer and the NCIC national stolen vehicle system. This action automatically activated the LoJack device installed on the Land Rover, which was installed at Rosenthal Jaguar in Vienna, VA.

Within a short while, members of NYPD’s Auto Crime Division picked up the homing signal from the stolen Land Rover on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles. They located the vehicle parked and abandoned in an underground garage in Manhattan’s 34th precinct. The Range Rover was undamaged and soon returned to its elated owner, who stated that she was grateful that she had LoJack on her SUV because without it the vehicle may never have been recovered.
