The victim in this case found his Ford F-150 missing from a hospital parking lot one Monday afternoon. A spare key was left inside the truck, and the thief, who may have been planning to just take the contents of the vehicle, ended up driving it away. Luckily, something else was hidden in the pickup- the LoJack® system, which assisted police in recovering it in less than a half hour after activation.

On July 29th, 2013, the Ford’s owner contacted the Tacoma, WA Police Department. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle identification number into the state and federal crime computers. That process automatically activated the LoJack unit concealed in the pickup, which was installed at Mallon Ford in Tacoma, WA.

Just a few minutes later, Tacoma PD officers received the homing signal transmitting from the Ford on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol cars. The officers quickly tracked the signal to South Sheridan Avenue, where it was found parked and abandoned. The undamaged F-150 was soon returned to its relieved owner.
