The Harley Davidson XL1200 motorcycle in this case was put into storage four years ago. It was last seen at the storage location in early 2012. Even though the bike had not been viewed in over a year and there was no way to verify the exact time of theft, local police using the LoJack® system were able to recover it in less than 90 minutes after activation.

On July 20th, 2013, the Harley’s owner contacted Glenview, IL Police after discovering his bike was missing. Officers verified the theft and entered the XL1200’s information into the Leads/NCIC local and federal crime computers. The LoJack unit hidden within the XL1200, which was installed at MCIL Harley Davidson in Chicago, IL, was then automatically activated.

A short while later, officers from the Cook County Sheriff’s Office began receiving the homing signal from the Harley on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles. They tracked the bike to the parking lot of an apartment building in Des Plaines. The thief had already removed the license plates and replaced them with temporary tags, a tactic that could fool the naked eye, but not the LoJack system. The undamaged XL1200 was soon returned to its happy owner, who stated “LoJack is awesome; you guys saved my life! I love LoJack!”
