It’s a little after one in the morning. You might have been partying with friends, studying for a big exam, or working late. The last thing you need is to find out your vehicle has been stolen when you’re ready to finally go home. The Newark, NJ resident experiencing this scenario in this case was surely glad he had the LoJack® system installed when he bought his Mercury Sable, so local police could track his car down in less than three hours.

On July 12th, 2013, the Mercury’s owner called Newark Police to report that his vehicle had been stolen. He had last seen the car when he parked it around 10 PM the previous evening. Newark PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. The LoJack unit concealed in the Sable, which was installed at Toyotaland in Springfield, NJ, was then automatically activated.

A short time later, a patrol officer from the Essex County Sheriff’s Department picked up the homing signal from the Mercury on the LoJack tracking computer installed in his patrol vehicle. The officer tracked the vehicle to Broad Street in Newark, where it was found abandoned and undamaged. The Sable was soon returned to its very happy owner.
