In this case, a Newark, NJ woman is carjacked while exiting her own home. It’s hard to imagine a scarier event. She had the LoJack® system installed when purchasing her 2011 Subaru Forester, so her local police were able to recover her vehicle in less than three hours, which hopefully eased a little of the victim’s trauma from this terrible ordeal.

On July 5th, 2013, the Subaru’s owner called Newark Police to report the crime. When she was exiting her home that morning, two men came up to her as she was unlocking her car, grabbed her purse and keys and drove away. Newark PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. This action automatically activated the LoJack device concealed in the Forester, which was installed at Metro Chevrolet-Geo in Union, NJ.

A short time later, a patrol officer from the Essex County Sheriff’s Department picked up the homing signal from the Subaru on the LoJack tracking computer installed in his patrol vehicle. The officer tracked the vehicle to a parking lot off Prospect Street in Newark, where it was recovered abandoned and undamaged. The Forester was soon returned to its relieved owner.
