The LoJack® System Helps Houston and Pasadena, Texas Police Departments Recover Six Stolen Lincoln Welders

Equipment rental companies often have large inventories of machines that are difficult to keep track of. Installing the LoJack® system on their rental units gives law enforcement a helping hand in locating their vehicles if one (or more) should go missing. In this case, two police departments in Texas track two stolen welders equipped with LoJack- and locate four other machines as well.

On June 17th, 2013, an equipment rental company in Pasadena, TX contacted Harris County Precinct 2 Constable’s Office in LaPorte to report that several of their Lincoln Welders were missing. The company was tipped off by a private party who purchased one of the welders from an online advertisement and realized it was a stolen rental unit. The rental company checked its inventory and discovered six additional welders missing, two of which had the LoJack system installed. Constables verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the State and Federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack units concealed in the Lincoln Welders.

A short while later, officers from the Houston Police Department picked up the homing signals from one of the stolen welders on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles. The officers tracked the welder signal to a trade school where it was located inside the training area, along with another Lincoln belonging to the same rental agency. At the same time, Pasadena, TX PD officers picked up the homing signals from the other stolen welder and tracked it to a storage warehouse, where the welder protected by LoJack and three additional stolen welders were discovered.  All the Lincoln Welders were returned to the very grateful rental company. The value of all the welders recovered was $75,000.
