The LoJack® system often helps police perform interstate recoveries. This is when a car, truck, van or motorcycle is stolen in one state and recovered in another. These recoveries are possible because when a LoJack device is activated, it will give off a homing signal in every state LoJack covers, and not just the state the vehicle is stolen from.

On May 13th, 2013, the Suzuki’s owner reported it stolen from their residence to the Stafford County, VA, Sheriff’s Office. The responding deputy verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into their state and federal crime computers. The LoJack unit on the bike, which was installed at Coleman Powersports in Woodbridge, VA, was then automatically activated.

A short while later, flight officers in Prince Georges County, Maryland Police Aviation Unit received the homing signal from the stolen bike on the LoJack tracking computer installed in their helicopter.  The officers located the Suzuki in Adelphi, MD, and directed ground units to recover it. The GSX-R600 was soon returned to its grateful owner.
