When approached by police, a thief apprehended driving the vehicle they stole will often claim that they either purchased it or a friend gave it to them. Luckily, the suspect can’t lie to the LoJack® System- it’s activated by your local police and not misled by any false statements.

On April 16th, 2013, the owners of a Honda Accord contacted Los Angeles County Sheriff’s East LA Station deputies to report their vehicle had been stolen. LASD deputies verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into their state and federal crime computers. This automatically activated the LoJack device concealed in the vehicle, which was installed at Weseloh Honda in San Juan Capistrano, CA.

A short time later, a Detective with the Auto Theft division picked up the homing signal from the stolen Honda.  As he was verifying the information, the vehicle drove by him. He began following the car, and, as it was making a turn, the female driver threw out what appeared to be a key and pulled into a driveway.  The driver was detained and later claimed that she had been given the car by a friend.  The thrown item was later found to be a “shaved key”, commonly used by car thieves.  The detective booked the suspect,  and the Accord was soon returned to its owners undamaged.
