A motorcycle thief in Texas thought he was being clever when he changed the license plate on the bike he stole. This diversionary tactic might fool anyone visually, but the LoJack® System doesn’t look- it sends out a homing signal to let police know that the vehicle has been stolen, and leads them to its location.

On April 5th, 2013, the owner of a 2013 Kawasaki ZX600 contacted the Abilene, TX police to report that his motorcycle was stolen from his driveway. The police verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into their state and federal crime computers. This automatically activated the LoJack unit concealed in the Kawasaki, which was installed at Alamo Cycle-Plex in San Antonio, TX.

A short while later, officers from the DeSoto, TX police picked up the homing signals from the Kawasaki on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles. The officers tracked the stolen motorcycle to a bowling alley parking lot, where they observed it sitting inside the bed of a Ford pickup. The truck’s owner told officers that he purchased the bike the night before from “some guy.”  The motorcycle’s license plate was replaced with one registered to the owner of the Ford, and the ZX600’s broken ignition switch was lying inside the bed of the pickup.  The suspect was arrested, and the Kawasaki was soon returned to its owner.
