The parking lot of a mall is usually a busy area full of vehicles, shoppers and employees. You probably wouldn’t expect a carjacking to occur in such a place- but you’d be wrong.

On April 7, 2013, the owner of a Hyundai Tucson had just returned to her car parked at a mall in Bremerton, Washington.  She was warming it up when two men approached, forced her from the vehicle and stole it along with her purse. Fortunately, she was not injured and immediately called the Bremerton Police to report the crimes. Bremerton PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle identification number into their state and federal crime computers. This automatically activated the LoJack® device concealed in the Hyundai, which was installed at Parr Hyundai in Bremerton, WA.

A short while later, a Pierce County Sheriff deputy received the homing signal from the stolen Hyundai on the LoJack tracking computer installed in his patrol car. The deputy tracked the vehicle moving northbound on Interstate Five near Fife and then called for back-up.  The suspects in the car initially accelerated in an attempt to elude the police, but eventually pulled over.  Both were taken into custody, and the Tucson was swiftly returned to its owner.
