On November 2, 2012, the owner of a 2010 Ducati motorcycle contacted the Riverside Sheriff’s Department to report her motorcycle stolen from her driveway in the city of Corona.

Riverside deputies verified the theft and entered the Ducati’s information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the motorcycle.

Minutes later, flight officers from Long Beach and LA County Sheriff’s Aero Bureau – along with agencies as far away as Buena Park in Orange County – picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Ducati on the Police Tracking Computers installed in their aircraft. Following the directional and signal strength cues from the LoJack computers, the flight officers directed ground units in Lakewood to the vehicle’s location. Several units tracked the Ducati to the 11000 block of 215th Street in the city of Lakewood. There, they located the motorcycle parked in a rear parking area of an apartment complex.

The deputies observed what appeared to be a motorcycle with a cover on it, and confirmed that it was, in fact, the stolen Ducati.  They notified the grateful owner, who was not aware that the pre-owned motorcycle was equipped with a LoJack system. The Ducati, valued at $17,000, sustained only ignition damage and was taken to a police tow for safekeeping. Deputies are continuing the investigation.

The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Ducati motorcycle on November 18, 2010 at Del Amo Motor Sports.
