On October 23, 2012, the owner of a 2008 Toyota Tundra pickup truck contacted the Kearny Police Department to report that his vehicle had been stolen. According to the owner, he drove to work in the vehicle to pick up his tractor-trailer. While the owner was starting the tractor, someone jumped into the pickup – with the engine running – and drove away. The owner also called the LoJack Customer Service Desk to advise LoJack of the theft.

The Kearny Police Department verified the theft and entered the Toyota’s information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the pickup truck.

A short time later, a patrol officer from the University of Dentistry & Medicine Police Department picked up the silent LoJack homing signals from the stolen pickup truck on the Police Tracking Computer installed in his patrol vehicle. Following the directional and audible cues from the LoJack computer, the officer tracked the vehicle to Central Avenue, in the City of Newark, where he recovered the vehicle parked and undamaged.

The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Toyota Tundra Pickup on March 2, 2009 at Toyota of Hackensack in Hackensack, New Jersey.
