On July 25, 2012, the owner of a 2003 Honda Motorcycle contacted the Ocean Township Police Department to report that his motorcycle had been stolen from the parking lot of the apartment complex where he lives. Witnesses said that they saw several males place the motorcycle in the back of a black Dodge pickup truck and drive away.

The Ocean Township Police Department verified the theft and entered the Honda’s information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the motorcycle.

A short while later, patrol officers from the Ocean Township Police Department and the Asbury Park Police Department picked up the silent LoJack signals coming from the stolen 2003 Honda Motorcycle on the Police Tracking Computers installed in their patrol vehicles. Following the directional and audible cues from the LoJack computers, the patrol officers tracked the vehicle to a business on Asbury Street, in the City of Asbury Park.

A search warrant was obtained for the property. Detectives from Ocean Township Police, Asbury Park Police, Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office and the New Jersey State Division of Criminal Justice searched the property. During the execution of the search warrant, four additional stolen motorcycles were discovered and six people were arrested. The owner of the business was charged on several complaints including Maintaining a Chop Shop and being the Leader of an Auto Theft Network.

The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the 2003 Honda Motorcycle on June 15, 2005, at Performance Cycles Shop in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts.
