On Sunday morning, July 1, 2012, the owners of a 2002 Dodge Caravan contacted the Coral Springs Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen from their home. Coral Springs Police verified the theft and had the Dodge’s information entered into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the vehicle.

A short while later, a deputy with the Broward County Sheriff’s Office picked up the silent LoJack homing signal from the stolen Dodge on their on-board LoJack Police Tracking computer (PTC). Following the directional and audible cues on their PTCs screen, an off-duty Coral Springs Police Department auto theft detective picked up the stolen vehicle’s signal as well. The officer, along with backup, located the Caravan in a parking lot in the 1900 block of S.W. 81st Avenue, North Lauderdale. The vehicle was unoccupied and appeared to have its steering column “punched”.

Since the vehicle was stolen out of Coral Springs and the CSPD auto theft detective was on the scene, the vehicle was towed to CSPD headquarters to be processed. Upon entering the vehicle, the officers discovered a Triumph 675R Sport motorcycle in the rear of the vehicle. Contact was made with the owner of the motorcycle, who advised that he was out of town, had last seen the motorcycle on June 29, 2012, and hadn’t given anyone permission to operate his motorcycle. The vehicles were recovered, released to their respective owners at the Coral Springs Police Department Headquarters and removed from federal and state crime computer systems.

The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the 2002 Dodge Caravan on February 9, 2002 at Autoland in Springfield, New Jersey and has been protecting it ever since.
