On Tuesday morning, June 26, 2012, the owner of a 2008 Suzuki GSX-R600 motorcycle contacted the Coral Gables Police Department to report the motorcycle stolen. The owner explained that when she went outside to walk her dog, she discovered her motorcycle missing. As the chain that secured the motorcycle was found on the floor, she assumed that the thieves had dismantled the motorcycle in order to steal it.

Coral Gables Police verified the theft and had the Suzuki’s information entered into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the motorcycle.

Later that afternoon, an officer with the Miami-Dade Police Department picked up the Suzuki’s silent LoJack homing signal on their on-board LoJack Police Tracking Computer (PTC). Before long, other officers along I-95 began to pick up the signal, moving northbound. A Broward County Sheriff’s Office auto theft detective started heading north on the interstate and picked up the signal near the Copan Road exit. Deputies from Deerfield Beach and Pompano Beach swarmed the area, ultimately locating the motorcycle hidden inside a Chevrolet van in the parking lot of a warehouse.

The Pompano Beach auto theft detective determined that a search warrant was needed to retrieve the motorcycle, so he had the van towed to the district office. The next day, a search warrant was granted and served on the van, whereupon the motorcycle was recovered, towed to the police impound yard for safekeeping, and removed from federal and state crime computer systems.

The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Suzuki GSX-R600 motorcycle on April 24, 2008 by Palmetto Motorsports in Hialeah, Florida, and has been protecting it ever since.
